June 6, 2024 depARTure Tour
John Steuart Curry at the Muskegon Museum of Art

RSVP Deadline: May 1, 2024

Depart Kalamazoo Institute of Arts 9 am, return by 6 pm

John Steuart Curry: Weathering the Storm tells the captivating and tragic story behind the work and life of an artist whose paintings of rural landscapes, communal gatherings, and devastating natural disasters shaped perceptions of life in the Midwest in the late1920s. Iconic works, such as Muskegon’s own “Tornado Over Kansas” and the Whitney Museum of American Art’s “Baptism in Kansas”, will be featured alongside works from major museums around the country.

We will enjoy a special tour of the exhibition. Organized by the Muskegon Museum of Art and featuring new research, this is the only venue for the first in-depth look at Curry’s work in 20 years.

Also on view: Quilts: The Artistry of Home compliments Weathering the Storm with Depression Era quilts by historic makers, many from Michigan, plus the museum’s exceptional permanent collection galleries.
